Desert Rocky, the Lake and the Mountains

This is a splendid trip during which you will discover the most diverse and spectacular landscapes. Your guide will pick you up at 9am at your accommodation place. Your private tour will first bring you to the Agafay desert, which is just around 30 mins away from Marrakech. For all those who haven’t got sufficient time in Morocco for a Sahara desert tour, all the way south to the Sahara dunes, then the Agafay desert is the best thing to do instead. Unlike the Sahara, the Agafay desert is not a Sand desert – but more of an undulating, baked sandstone and earthen plateau. The landscape consists of sandstone crags, traditional mud-built villages. Dusty riverbeds are interspersed with spectacular sumptuous pasture and vegetation in springtime. Also, if you wish, you can drive quads in the desert.

Later, we will drive further off-road passing by a small lake and Berber villages. If you wish it, we will have time to get out of the 4X4 and walk for a while along the tracks. You can also choose to take a camel ride. We will also make a stop to have tea in a typical Berber village.

We will then take the road again toward the lake of Lalla Takerkoust, which is in fact a hydro-electricity reservoir. It’s a famous spot for picnics on the edge of the lake, and also for horse riding or jet-skiing. Depending on your choice, lunch will be either in a lakeside restaurant or at a local Berber family in the mountains. We will continue our journey eastwards in the direction of the Kik Plateau. Here, we will stop for refreshments at a high vantage point, where beautiful photos can be made.

Finally, we will descend into the market town of Asni located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains (where a lively traditional souk takes place on Saturdays). We will then take another road through orchards of apple, apricot and cherry trees toward the agricultural plains of Marrakech and reach the city at around 5 PM. The day tour provides the visitors with a thrilling and complete mix of landscapes such as desert, mountains, lakes and villages. All these varying sceneries can be visited within one-day.
